HEALTH EQUITY INITIATIVES: We are working with local and state partners to reduce health inequities in an area of Tulsa that has the worse health disparities in the entire county. Tulsa Health Department is conducting a capital campaign to build a 25,000 - 30,000 sq. ft. health and wellness center in the area. Through a series of focus and community group meetings the community has had significant input into the look, location and services that will provide in the new facility. The Tulsa Health Department is also sharing data with the community regarding health disparities and assisting in mobilizing the community to action. The Tulsa Health Department is also collaborating with the University of Oklahoma to introduce a cardiovascular disease prevention project in an area that has one of the highest rates of cardiovascular disease deaths. The project will include health education, health promotion, screenings and pharmaceutical aide support for high risk residents.
