HEALTH EQUITY INITIATIVES: Since 2005, ICHD's Social Justice Project has used facilitated dialogue to identify ways to improve community health by moving the department's and the community's approaches "upstream." In 2008, 30 employees and community members were trained as facilitators of training and dialogue on health equity and social justice. Throughout 2009-10, these facilitators will train all health dept staff and up to 75 community members (32 hours of training each, in cadres of 20). Health equity is a declared core value of the department, and a focus of its community organizing efforts around increasing access to health and health care through the Capital Area Health Alliance.

ICHD's early process is described in Chapter 13 of "Tackling Health Inequities Through Public Health Practice: Theory to Action".
